How Empaths Can Overcome Daily Struggles

Life as an Empath not only involves being susceptible to over-feeling emotional energy, it also goes hand in hand with being a Highly Sensitive Person. Which ultimately means we have the predisposition to be sensitive to everything.

For example, we can be more sensitive to chemicals in food, or in our products and the environment. We can also be more sensitive to electrical energy and WIFI. Basically, most things that are manufactured or inauthentic can weaken those of a Sensitive nature.

Over-feeling all types of energy can also mean we get sick easier than most, or our symptoms tend to be felt more acutely. Let me explain:

What may be experienced as mild cold symptoms for some people, can put an Empath out of action for a week. If we get a headache, the pain can be more intense, any autoimmune conditions will wreak havoc on the body and mind, and energy shifts, that the majority of people don’t notice, can impact an Empath both physically and mentally.

All in all, being Highly Sensitive in this chemical laden artificial world, can make us feel like we are hypochondriacs, constantly suffering with ailments of the body and mind.

You may have noticed lately that you are suffering more unusual symptoms than you have before. This will be especially evident, if you are an Empath living in an area where there are lots of chemtrails up in the sky (left by planes), or if you live in an industrial or heavily populated area.

We are also enduring many strange energy shifts, that don’t seem to be letting up.

So, is there anything we can be doing for protection or for rebalancing?

In my humble opinion, the best things we can do for protection is to know our triggers, and avoid them, and take steps to counteract or prevent any damage done.

That said, I know that many of you don’t always know what your triggers are, especially if they swap and change, or we sometimes all need reminders of what we can be doing.

I have put together a little list of triggers, that maybe currently impacting you, as well as what you can do for protection and self-empowerment. So, here we go:

1. Going Outside at Peak Chemical Times

Although I am a massive advocate for getting outside to see natural daylight, first thing in the morning (see more on this post), I do not recommend it if you live in a heavily polluted area.

Whether the pollutants be from chemtrails or car exhaust fumes (which tend to be worse at busy times such as rush hour), these chemicals can cause many health issues for an Empath.

If you are like me, and like to get natural daylight in your eyes, but live in a polluted area, I would recommend sitting by a slightly open window, as soon as you get up, and allow the light rays to come into your eyes that way. And try to get outside at less polluted times of the day.

2. Your Diet

Empaths tend to suffer more with food sensitivities. Why? Because Empaths are sensitive to anything inauthentic.

These days, most of our food has either been genetically altered, is layered with chemicals, unnaturally farmed or fed a toxic diet intended to fatten up livestock.

That is not to mention all the problems experienced by those Empaths who are sensitive to a plants natural defence mechanisms (oxalates, phytates, lectins, etc.).

If you are not sure whether a certain food is impacting you, I recommend keeping a food diary.

Write down everything you eat and drink, every day, and note how you feel after.

I have got articles explaining this subject in more depth. Or my book goes into greater detail.

3. Not Supplementing Wisely

When I say not supplementing wisely, I mean taking vitamins unnecessarily.

For example, taking supplements that we either don’t need, or in isolation, can cause uncomfortable physical imbalances within the body (I found out the hard way). They can even cause serious health issues.

These self-inflicted nutrient imbalances don’t show up straight away. They can take months or years to manifest.

For example, I have taken magnesium for years, I also used salt rather liberally. However, when I was doing this, I did not know what a problem it was causing with my calcium levels.

Earlier last year, I was having some strange physical symptoms: palpitations, brain fog, fatigue, dizziness, anxiety, balance feeling off, and a constant cough. I had a feeling that my calcium was low, so I got a hair mineral test. The results showed my calcium was very low, sodium was very high, and my magnesium was out of balance with calcium.

I didn’t know that both sodium and magnesium reduce calcium levels in the body.

If you don’t have much dairy (as in my case), and don’t regularly eat sardines with bones (contain really good levels of calcium), or other calcium-rich foods, then you are probably not getting much calcium. By me taking magnesium supplements and using unrefined salt (I put it in my food, in my water and in the bath), it meant I further reduced my calcium levels.

Also, our water supply can impact our mineral levels. Soft water tends to have a higher sodium content. Hard water contains more calcium. In the area I live, the water is very soft.

I would just like to note, before I go any further, that I am in no way suggesting your calcium levels are low, nor am I criticizing magnesium or salt. Both are incredibly healing in their own right. They both have many physical and energetic benefits for a Sensitive person, but having too much of any one vitamin or mineral, and too little of another, can cause problems.

In fact, I still take magnesium (in a lesser dose). I have upped my calcium in food, and I am currently supplementing with calcium lactate, which is a more readily absorbed form of calcium. I have also greatly reduced my sodium intake.

Our vitamins and minerals all work in tandem. One nutrient can reduce another. And some vitamins need other vitamins to help them do their job.

That all being said, so much of our food is now deficient in vitamins and minerals, in comparison to what it used to be, and we are not getting the nutrients we need.

If you are unsure about your vitamin levels, as a safeguard, I would either recommend getting a good vitamin and mineral test done, this will help determine any imbalances, also check the nutrient content of the food you are eating, and compare it to the recommended nutrient guidelines.

I have an article on the subject here.

3. Toxic People

I know this goes without saying, but sometimes, we overlook just how much toxic people can impact our health. When I say toxic, I don’t only mean the narcissistic, mean and selfish types, I mean anyone who carries a lot of negative emotions or anger.

People consumed by dark emotions can be toxic to an Empath.

Knowing it’s Time to Let Go of Toxic Friends or Family

Sadly, it is often the kindest of people who carry the most emotional pain, and this makes avoidance all the more difficult.

4. Anyone with Ailments

An Empath only needs to spend a few minutes with anyone suffering a virus or flu to pick it up.

For the best protection, avoid anyone who is coughing or spluttering, and if anyone tells you they are feeling like they are coming down with a cold, avoid them like the plague!

5. Remaining Ungrounded

Being grounded has so many health benefits, and is known to reduce inflammation within the body. Inflammation goes hand-in-hand with illness.

6. Blue Light

Blue light is so destructive to our wellbeing.

When I say blue light, I’m meaning the light that comes from our computers, tablets, and phones.

It is said, that the average person spends 6.5 hours a day on some type of digital device that emits fake blue light. Over time this causes damage, not only to our eyes but it disrupts our circadian rhythms, which is a major stressor on the body (last thing an Empath needs).

One thing I recommend to anyone who spends a lot of time online, are blue light blocking glasses.

Blue light blockers are sold on Amazon; where you can also read the reviews, from others who have purchased them.

This is a vast subject, but also super important, and hopefully, one I will get back to in the future.

MOST EMPATHS ARE IN THE DARK ABOUT THIS…

7. Uncontrolled Mind Chatter

An Empath’s mind can be their best friend or their worst enemy. And this all boils down to being a creative thinker.

When we feel good inside, our thoughts can be an absolute delight. Sadly, any bad experience we endure or bad emotional energy we pick up from others, can quickly turn our thoughts dark and destructive.

This is why it is so very important to stay in charge of your mind.

The best ways to do this is either through breathwork or any type of meditative practice.

I have written about this many times. A liberated mind, free from negative or intruding thoughts, can lead to an empowered life!

8. Body Movement

Just like the importance of controlling our mind, so too is moving our body. This becomes more important the older we get.

When we are in our teens and twenties, we can get away with doing little or no exercise. Our body is more flexible and there is less wear and tear to deal with. The older we get, however, the more damage the body sustains.

Repetitive strain, and sitting or standing for long periods of time all take their toll on the body. This is why physical movement is so important.

For Empaths, using physical movement will help them not only in staying more grounded, but also protected. (A weak body will also generally mean a weakened aura. Read more here.)

However, what is also so very important is doing the exercise that works for you.

For example, forcing yourself to run 5 miles a day is not a good idea if you detest running. It can actually cause unnecessary stress, and there is no way you will stick with it.

Do something you enjoy, or that makes you feel good.

10 Incredible Yoga Poses for the Empath and Why You Need to Practice Them

My favourite forms of exercise are walking, yoga or Pilates. I also love high intensity interval training like Tabata or HIIT. I tend to practice yoga most days, only for twenty to thirty minutes, and then alternate different workouts at my gym.

If you are super-busy with little free time, and the thought of exercising just gets you stressed, why not try workout snacks. Which is as it sounds: small bursts of exercise, done for a few minutes, periodically, throughout the day. For example: while you are waiting for the kettle to boil, you could do some marching on the spot, or standing stretches, perhaps a little jiggy dance or some hip rotations. Anything that gets your joints and muscles moving, and the blood circulating.
